Core cutting machines: every width you need, from one mother tube.
Buying every core length pre-cut means stocking every width, paying transport on air, and waiting on your tube supplier for every format change. Converters who slit to variable widths cut their own cores — automatically and without waste.

Why cut cores in-house
- One stock item instead of dozens — keep 3–6 m mother tubes and cut the exact lengths your slitting programme needs, when it needs them.
- React in minutes, not weeks — a new reel width is a parameter change, not a purchase order.
- Stop shipping air — mother tubes pack denser than pre-cut cores; freight per metre of core drops.
- Precision — clean square cuts, no fringes or delamination, so cores seat correctly on the winding shaft.
Zero-waste cutting — the GAVO approach
GAVO Meccanica leads the cutting stage of CORES WORLD: a global reference in the design and manufacturing of automatic tube cutting machines, with patented zero-waste cutting systems. The machines optimise the cutting sequence over the mother tube so that the leftover stub is eliminated or minimised — material you paid for becomes cores, not scrap.
- Zero-waste technology — patented systems that eliminate cutting waste and optimise core usage.
- High precision — exact tolerances for perfect roll winding and processing.
- Fully automated — CNC controls, automatic loading, minimal operator intervention.
- Versatile — handles the common diameter range and wall thicknesses of paper and plastic cores.
Does a core cutter pay for itself?
The payback calculation has four ingredients: the price gap between mother tubes and pre-cut cores; the freight saved; the stock you no longer hold in every width; and the offcut waste you eliminate. For converters cutting more than a few hundred cores a week with variable widths, the machine typically wins — send us your volumes through the RFQ page and we will route the numbers to GAVO Meccanica.
Cutting new tubes vs stripping used ones
A core cutter prepares new cores from mother tubes. Recovering used cores from finished reels is a different job — stripping the leftover material without cutting into the tube — done by the RECYCLO core stripper. Many converters run both: cut new cores in-house, recover used ones instead of repurchasing.
